What Is Gypsy ReBornz?

Gypsy ReBornz is a YouTube channel and website dedicated to one thing: capturing and sharing the testimonies of Romani Gypsy Christians from England.

Real people. Real stories. Nothing dressed up or performed. Just Romani men and women from the travelling community sitting in front of a camera and telling you what God did in their lives.

Why This Channel Exists

There are thousands of born-again Christian Gypsies in England.

You won’t read about them in newspapers. You won’t see them on television — except in unflattering portrayals that miss everything important. The genuine, living, personal faith that runs through the Romani community in England is almost entirely invisible to the wider world.

Gypsy ReBornz exists to change that.

By filming and sharing these testimonies, we preserve stories that would otherwise go unheard. A man who got saved in the 1980s and whose life was never the same again. A woman whose family was transformed when she came to faith. Story after story — each one different, each one real.

Where the Name Came From

It was not chosen. It was given, and it was not meant kindly.

Gypsies go to Gypsies. That is how it has always worked. Not because we have favourites, but because they do — a man will listen to one of his own long before he listens to an outsider. It is easy to say “he does not know what he is talking about” when the man at your gate is nothing to do with you. Harder when he is one of yours.

So we went round the Gypsy families in Kent. The same families, year after year. And what we said to them was this:

Jesus said you must be born again. We are born again. We have come to talk to you about what He meant by it.

“Here They Come”

Say born again enough times to enough people and it wears down into something shorter. That is what happened.

The ones who were not saved started seeing us coming up the road and calling it out to one another:

“Here they come. The ReBornz.”

There was a dig in it. A bit of mockery. We were the ones who kept turning up, and they had a name for us.

So We Wore It

You can either take offence at a thing like that, or you can take the name. We took the name.

What It Does Not Mean

Gypsy ReBornz does not mean reborn Gypsies.

It does not mean men who wandered off from the culture and have come back to it. It has nothing to do with rediscovering the travelling life, or returning to your roots, or any of that.

Being born again is not something that happens to a Gypsy. It is something that happens to a person. Jesus was not talking to Romani people when He said it. He was talking to a man.

“Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” — John 3:3

You are born of the flesh once. Then you are born of the Spirit, from above. That second birth is what makes a person a Christian, and it is the same second birth for every person on earth, whoever they are and wherever they came from.

What It Does Mean

Christians who happen to be of the Gypsy race.

The Christian part came from God. The Gypsy part is simply what we already were — the people we were born to, the blood we carry, the family we belong to. That did not change and it did not need to.

So the name reads in that order, and only that order. Born again first, because that is what saved us. Gypsy second, because that is who we happened to be when it happened.

We are currently working through the entire archive — improving quality, updating thumbnails, and re-presenting these testimonies to a new generation of viewers. The title says it all: Reuploaded & Reborn.

The Romani Gypsy Community in England

Romani Gypsy people have been in England for over 500 years, having travelled west from northern India across Europe in the centuries before and after 1000 AD.

In England, the Romani people developed a distinct culture — the travelling life, the varda (bow-top barrel wagon), the Romanes language, the crafts, the music, the close-knit family structure that remains central to Romani life today.

We are proud of that heritage. And we are proud that woven through that heritage — for decades now — is a genuine, personal Christian faith.

A Note on the Name “Gypsy”

The word “Gypsy” is considered offensive in some contexts. We use it here because it is the word our own community has historically used to describe ourselves, and because it is the word most people search for when they want to find testimonies from the Romani community.

We use it with pride, not shame.
